German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has responded to accusations of insufficient military support for Ukraine and said that only the USA probably helps Ukraine more than Germany. He said this during a visit to Vilnius, reports The Telegraph.
He said Germany is “one of Ukraine’s most important military supporters,” thereby rejecting accusations that his government is too hesitant to supply weapons to Ukraine.
“Germany is one of Ukraine’s most important military supporters, and probably only the United States provides more support than we do,” Scholz said at a news conference with the leaders of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
He also noted that the Armed Forces receive modern artillery systems from Berlin, and Ukrainian soldiers learn how to use them.

A recent study by the Kiel Institute for World Economics found that Poland and Great Britain provided more military support to Ukraine than Germany. However, according to the same analysis, Germany provided more military aid than France and Canada.
Scholz’s remarks came just hours after President Vladimir Zelensky hailed British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “very important ally” who provides the weapons needed to fight Russia.
On June 3, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, said Ukraine will receive its first heavy weapons from the FRG at the end of the month, noting that Germany has not delivered a single piece of heavy weaponry during the 100 days of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
According to UA War Infographics, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and Lithuania donated the largest portion of their defense budgets to help Ukraine.
