Poles allowed to collect deadwood because of the embargo on Russian coal

The Polish authorities allowed to legally collect deadwood in the forests, but to do so, citizens must undergo appropriate training and pay for it. Marek Mruz of the Katowice Regional Directorate of State Forestry told about the new ways to deal with the consequences of sanctions against Russian energy resources.

According to the new rules, Poles must now apply to local foresters for training. He must also show the approved for this purpose place in the forest, where the logging has been completed. “The collection of brushwood concerns branches. The branches to be collected cannot be thicker than seven centimeters,” Mruz specified.

The new measures were caused by a shortage of firewood and coal, which before the embargo was supplied from Russia. One will have to pay between 7 and 30 zlotys (about $1.6 to $7) per spatial meter (about 0.25 cubic meter) for the collected brushwood, the final price depending on the region. Unauthorized collection of brushwood is considered theft and is punishable by a fine.

Earlier, Christian Kullmann, president of the Association of Chemical Industries of Germany and CEO of Evonik Industries AG, called calls for a gas embargo against Russia unreasonable and outrageous. According to Kullmann, the importance of natural gas for the German industry is too great; rejection of fuel from Russia would jeopardize its existence.
