The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported 780 confirmed cases of monkeypox. This is reported by TASS.
It is noted that the data on cases of infection were received from May 13 to June 2 from 27 countries that are not endemic for the disease.
It has become known that 523 new cases of monkeypox were detected from May 26 to June 2. As of June 2 no deaths from the disease have been registered in non-endemic countries. Great Britain (207), Spain (156) and Portugal (138) reported the largest number of infected persons, followed by Canada (58), Germany (57), France (33), Netherlands (31), Italy (20), USA (19) and Belgium (12). In other countries the number of cases does not exceed 10.
The organization assesses the risk of global spread of the disease as moderate. The sudden and unexpected appearance of monkeypox in non-endemic regions suggests that covert transmission of the virus was occurring before the number of infections increased.
Earlier, the medical regulator CDC reported identifying more than 900 human cases of monkeypox virus infection in 29 countries.
